Information for New Clients

  • In psychotherapy, you work with a professional to learn more about yourself and develop new and constructive ways to handle life’s challenges. This can be an emotionally challenging yet transformative experience that helps you reclaim the vitality of living openly and freely in your truest self.

Through collaborative reflection and over time, psychotherapy helps you unlock the past to gain insight into the motivations driving your thoughts and actions in the present. Our clarifying work empowers you to make real and meaningful changes that promote healing and actualize your capacity for fulfillment and success.

With psychotherapy, many clients report increased authenticity and personal competence in creating the life they want, including satisfaction in love and work and a sense of inner peace. Extensive empirical research confirms that psychotherapy effectively addresses everyday problems, mental health conditions, and major traumas and psychiatric illnesses.

  • Many people seek psychotherapy when they feel lost, stuck, or disengaged—something just isn’t working in their life.

During our first several sessions, we will clarify the nature of your concerns and identify what you want to change. We will consider how psychotherapy with me might help you to achieve these goals.

If it is determined that something else would be more appropriate, I can assist you in finding referral options.

  • Sessions are typically 45 minutes.

I generally advise weekly appointments for new clients to establish care. We can discuss session frequency in our first several appointments.

Psychotherapy can be short- or long-term based on your needs.

I only hold telehealth (i.e., online) sessions and use a HIPAA-compliant virtual platform. My registered office is in Honolulu, HI. Due to licensing regulations, clients must be physically in California, Washington, DC, or Hawaiʻi for any session.

  • Some clients are understandably concerned about financing psychotherapy.

In this regard, research evidence shows psychotherapy to be highly cost-effective in preventing liabilities associated with untreated psychological concerns. Such outcomes include increased medical and psychiatric costs and lost earnings potential from reduced work productivity and career engagement.

Stated differently, unaddressed psychological issues and problems erode the quality of everyday lived experience and incur concrete deficits to your personal and professional functioning. Over time, this can be more costly than psychological services.

You are your greatest asset. Being of sound heart and mind ensures access to realizing your fullest potential in living. Psychotherapy can thus be a worthwhile investment in protecting and optimizing your ability to achieve enduring life satisfaction. Learn more about the value of psychotherapy.

  • Fees are $300-$350 per session. We will discuss fees during the initial consultation before your first appointment. Fees are due at the time of service. I accept cash, checks, and major credit cards.

There is a set number of sliding scale appointments to expand service access. All of these sliding scale appointments are full as of 02/19/24. Learn more about sliding scales.

  • I am an “out-of-network” (OON) provider, meaning I am not paneled “in-network” with any insurance company. Learn more about reasons why you might consider OON providers for psychotherapy.

If you have an insurance plan with OON benefits, your insurance company may be able to reimburse your psychotherapy fees paid out-of-pocket at the time of service. Therefore, I encourage all new clients to consult their insurance provider to confirm whether their plan includes OON benefits. In many instances, OON benefits (if available) allow you to afford psychotherapy at a rate comparable to in-network coverage.

Upon request, I can provide a superbill or invoice that you can submit to your insurance provider for OON reimbursement benefits. A diagnosis is required for any insurance reimbursement, which we can discuss in your first appointment. Learn more about how to use OON benefits.

  • In my practice, I only work with individual adults. I am not working with couples, families, or children and adolescents. I also do not provide testing or forensic psychological services.

If your needs overlap with the above instances, I may be able to assist you in finding referral options. Please contact me with any questions.

  • I am glad to hear about your interest in working with me.

I am accepting new clients with several openings (as of 03/06/24). Generally, I see clients on Thursdays and Fridays and weekends by appointment. As my scheduling availability is flexible, please don’t hesitate to contact me if my practice appears to fit your needs and concerns.
